Henry Hudson (b. 1982) is a British artist whose practice spans a diverse array of innovative mediums. Constantly pushing the boundaries of painting, he explores new ways of creating, whether it’s through painting with plasticine in his intricately detailed Jungle and Grotto series (land), painting with pigments in the ethereal, mathematical Horizon Line series (air), or painting with plaster in his alchemical, fluid Scagliola series (water). Hudson’s work oscillates between the figurative and the abstract, blending traditional and contemporary materials and techniques. At its core, his art engages with the human experience, civilization, and our evolving relationship with nature - always centered around the fundamental question: What is painting, and what can it become?

Henry Hudson’s work is inspired by a multitude of sources new and old in which British art plays a formative role.

Hudson’s exploration extends into the digital realm, where technology becomes a vital tool in his creative process. He splits his time between his iPad, desktop, and sketchbooks, using each to inform and inspire his work. Rather than shying away from technology, he embraces it as an essential aspect of modern life. He views it not as a threat, but as a powerful tool that can be both destabilizing and revelatory in the art world. The reality is that technology is here to stay, and whether one loves or hates it, there is something perversely poetic about its presence.
